Sacraments of Christian Initiation

Baptism

This is the basis of the whole Christian life, the door to the other sacraments. Baptism washes away sin. We are reborn as children of God and become members of the Church.

Saint Brendan the Navigator Parish celebrates Baptisms most days of the year starting after the last Mass on Sundays at either Maris Stella Church (Avalon) or St. Paul Church (Stone Harbor.) Baptisms can also be done at Sacred Heart Church (Avalon.) Baptism can be scheduled on other days besides a Sunday with a few exceptions. If you are baptizing your first baby, parents attend Baptismal preparation class (our Pre-Jordan session), which usually is held each month for baptisms scheduled the following month. The classes are held on the 3rd Monday of the month at 7 PM in Quinn Hall (St. Paul) in Stone Harbor. Classes will be instructed by Deacon Charlie Devlin. Please register for class by calling the Parish Office at 609-967-3746.

Parents/Godparents must submit the required paperwork for Baptism.

For more information, please contact our Parish office by email or by calling 609-967-3746.

Confirmation

Confirmation deepens our baptismal life that calls us to be missionary witnesses of Jesus Christ in our families, neighborhoods, society, and the world. Situations when Confirmation is celebrated include:

  • Children. Typically, children receive the sacrament in their 8th Grade year. Two years of Preparation are required to receive this sacrament. For more information, contact Eileen Barrett, Coordinator Family Faith Formation.

  • Adults. If you are an adult that has not been confirmed, please contact Deacon Bob Dooley and he can assist you.

Eucharist

The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life. We receive the very Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ (the Real Presence) in Holy Communion. Everything from the Christian life flows from the Eucharist and flows back to it.

It is in the act of worship at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass that we disciples receive the Eucharist.

Young Catholics customarily receive the Eucharist for the first time in the second grade, and our parish offers a Parish Religious Education Program to help them prepare.

For those unable to attend church because of illness or age, we can arrange to bring Holy Communion into your home.

For more information please contact Eileen Barrett, Coordinator of Family Faith Formation.
